What kind of patients may require this type of intervention?
This intervention is intended for patients who experience a feeling of dissatisfaction in terms of the manifestation of the aesthetic expression of their ears, mainly, most often expressed by their bulging.
This procedure can usually be performed by children when they reach the age of seven if they complain of offensive ridicule, which in the future can form the basis for the occurrence of difficulties in their schooling.
What is the purpose of this intervention?
The purpose of this intervention is to eliminate the anomalies of the formation of cartilaginous tissue that occur in the region of the auricle and are responsible for the appearance of the protruding species.
In the course of this type of correction intervention, there are two main manifestations of deviation:
The excessive size of the cartilaginous tissue of the auricle giving the ear anteriorly and reinforcing the appearance of the protruding species
Insufficient plication of the anticancer of the auricle ( the expression of the middle upper ear area)
Intervention has the purpose of performing a complete correction of these anomalies by remodeling the cartilaginous tissue in order to reach the “pressed” symmetrical ears of a natural size and type.
What are the remaining scars?
Will remain a small scar that will be hidden behind the ear.
How is the intervention?
Incisions are performed behind the ear
Correction of the cartilaginous tissue will consist in the creation by suturing the natural fold of the ear(anticancer of the auricle) and hiding and/or shortening the excess part of the auricle
The applied seams are made with the use of absorbable filaments of small size
When applying a bandage, special means such as small strips
The overlapping of the capping band is carried out for the period of the first 24 hours
Duration of the intervention: 1 hour
What kind of anesthesia is required for otoplasty ?
Otoplasty is performed under local anesthesia in a “pure form”. Together with this to ensure the greatest comfort, children prefer to use general anesthesia.
Duration of hospitalization
The intervention can be performed “out-patiently” with the possibility of leaving the clinic on the same day.
How usually is the recovery period after the intervention?
Painful sensations are usually noted in rare cases. A protective dressing is required to be worn day and night for 2 weeks and then only at night for another 14 days. Return to school can be 7 days after the intervention.
What is the cost of surgery of protruding ears?
The price of otoplasty varies between 3000 euros and 4000 euros.

OTOPLASTY
This young patient asked for advice on otoplasty. She didn’t have any special history of anamnesis before. Her request concerned exceptionally protruding ears that differed in their asymmetry , which was the subject of ridicule from the earliest childhood.
At the examination, the protrusion of both ears was detected with the greater severity in the right auricle. We found hypertrophy of both auricles and insufficient plication of the anticancer of the auricle.
This patient underwent otoplasty under local anesthesia with the excision of the excess part of the auricle to hide it and perform the plication of the anticancer of the auricle.
This intervention made it possible to achieve pressing the ears while retaining their natural appearance.
